Dingo Hip

Chris in Montana performing prototype surgery

Dr Chris is passionate about improving the safety of hip replacement surgery in dogs and has undertaken a decade long project to develop a cost effective implant to achieve this. He works with colleagues in the US and human surgeons. The design is evolving and must be tested before clinical use. Biomechanics engineers form part of the research team.

Cementless implants are 3D printed and made of titanium. They allows the skeleton to integrate with the surface of the implants as it is designed to be porous like coral. Only 1% of dogs that need a hip replacement actually get this procedure which restores normal function. MVO aims to make this statistic far higher.
